the first snowfall of the season hit NYC today. It's cold, wet and all around screaming farewell to the loveliest season of all: summer.

I am not as heartbroken to let go as I typically was in the past. No, this time I am embracing fall (or in this case winter), and excited for all that comes along with the cold. Big sweaters, cozy nights with a cute boy, hot drinks with cold hands, long walks upstate watching the leaves change color. It's all good. Yes, it's all good...
can't means you wont.

These photos were sent to me from friend/reader Jen with the kindest note saying, "I wish I could take you to this beautiful location and give you 3 days of relaxation, you deserve it."

Thanks, darling. I wish I could go there with you right this moment...looks like my paradise.

collage from the magical Aubrey Road

I'm in a real black and white obsession phase right now and I don't want to get out of it. From my clothes to photos to home decor. I just want more.

I'm starving

And nothing would make me happier than a giant burger and 23 pounds of fries. Make it a filet mignon from the Strip House on 12th Street and I may just lay down and die (for like 12 hours).
Care to join me?

Dress me

Marilyn looking ever so stunning in the perfect fall attire.

A dose of sea

I'm yearning for some tranquility right about now. A seat by the sea, some magazines, a never ending playlist and time to just live in the moment without worrying about where I need to be or who I need to call or email. A stretch of time to be me. Peacefully.

Double heart

Sent to me from Dylan. Thanks darling, I love you endlessly!

41 years of love

So in the midst of dealing with a hyper child and jet lag, I completely forgot the most important day of the year. My parents anniversary. 41 years of love.
My inspiration. My aspiration. My true dream in life: to live in love as my parents do. It's a rare love, but not impossible. I see it with my own eyes and I long for it now as a mother and a lover of life. To find a partner that understands how to go about your daily pleasures and struggles in the same way you do. It's a unit. A joint adventure. A built in best friend to understand you as well, it not better, than you understand yourself.

Mom and dad, I thank you for showing me what's most important in life. I love you more than my words could properly express. Congrats on all these amazing years.

travel guide

My love for the guys that put out Vice Magazine and VBS is never-ending. Men, manly men.
And this travel guide to Liberia is exactly what you need to see in order to understand:

sometimes i think people just ruin the ease and happiness of their own life by single handedly being negative about any goodness around them. Life can be good, just make it good. stop complicating it.

So good to be back

I heart NYC, no matter how good another city is, NYC is home. Ahhh...

I leave this evening to take Luca to Paris to see his dad and all his family. I couldn't be more excited to get there and explore the city on foot as I always's been exactly one year since I've been there and nearly that long since Luca has seen that side of his family. Besides having to do some work, it should be a fun adventure for me and bear to wander the streets alone for a few days. Just pray the 8 hour plane ride with he and I isn't too tragic...I cannot even imagine how intense it will be trying to control this crazy bear all by myself for all those hours...ahhhhhhh!

the king and I

sometimes the love I feel actually pains me. I wish I had known him sooner. And sometimes I actually wish I had him when I was 21 years old instead of 31, those 10 extra years together...we are a unit. A solid ONE that gets better with each day. My baby bear. Oh how I thank the world for bringing me such light.

this is real

Please watch this video of Chris Rene's audition - he'll win your heart, too.

First it was American Idol, now Michelle has gotten me into watching X Factor...and tonight, my first night watching, I became so addicted, so entranced, so emotionally attached to these strangers and their journey. Like most things that revolve around happiness, I've become a silent cheerleader from my bedroom. I sobbed (still kinda am) until I had to remind myself to breathe. These people, these dreams, these moments in their lives that mean so very much...I just cannot express how I feel watching. I want everyone to win. I want everyone to reach the top, to find a way out of where they are and into a place of safety and truth. I want them all to pick up the phone and cry with happiness to their parents, "mom! I made it! mom! I'm going to make you so proud!" Life, oh man, life...which leaves me with the question of all questions is, how can I possibly watch this show going forward knowing someone's dream will be crushed each week? I don't know if my heart can take it.

Patch of hearts

Taken on 5th ave and 57th street

Thanks to Isobel Oliphant this song wont leave my head.

AI Friedman is always having these incredible frame sales. Next time it happens, I'm heading there, buying a bunch in different sizes and replicating this amazing little corner with a mix of artwork that Luca creates and my prize possessions purchased from the years gone by.

last night I attended a black tie event wearing pretty much the same thing as another was a lovely moment for us both as we spotted one another from across the way...

Head to toe:
Silk blazer: Reiss, sequin pants: Alice & Olivia, Clutch: Bottega Veneta, earrings: vintage.

Fresh air

A home with some magical outdoor space is all I need to breathe a little differently. Could be a tiny nook or a giant pool...

"I want for people in the universe, my fans and otherwise, to essentially use me as an escape. I am the jester to the kingdom. I am the route out. I am the excuse to explore your identity. To be exactly who you are and to feel unafraid. To not judge yourself, to not hate yourself."
- Lady Gaga in the March issue of Vogue

My first shoot for Anika Brazil. Couldn't be happier. Dreams come true. Passions bring happiness. Hard work pays off. Thank you all for supporting me through the last months of pure insanity. I am über-grateful.

I'm poaching this post from Fabrik of Life, my daily addition.
Dr Nicholas Perricone’s (best ever) summer skin tips.
Two major concerns of summer are the twin effects of sun and heat. With sun exposure, we see increased freckling of the skin, sunburn and heat rash. To protect the skin follow those simple rules:
1. Eat a diet rich in antioxidants and healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil to address these problems from the inside out.
2. If you long for that golden glow on face and body but don’t want the damage to skin that comes from tanning try a high quality self-tanning lotion.
3. Nothing ages the face like the combination of tanning and alcohol.
4. Don’t smoke!  Smoking will also rapidly destroy youthful skin.
5. Enjoy anti-inflammatory foods. A diet rich in protein, fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and healthy fats like cold-water fish, extra virgin olive oil and nuts will repair your skin from the inside out.
6. Apply the right creams. Any skin cream with high levels of DMAE, Vitamin C Ester and Alpha Lipoic Acid will help heal sun damage. You may ask your dermatologist for prescription Retin-A, which revives depleted collagen and elastin caused by sun damage and restores youthful skin.
7. Wear topical non-chemical sunscreens. I recommend non-chemical sunscreens such as ‘physical’ blockers titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide and not chemical sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens are more likely to cause allergic reactions or irritate the skin but the formulations are often lighter and easier to apply. Non-chemical sunscreens (physical sunscreens) are less likely to cause skin reactions.
8. Cleanse thoroughly after wearing sunscreen on the face because of left on the skin it will clog pores resulting in breakouts.
9. Eat your vegetables and fresh fruit including all orange, red and green leafy vegetables rich in carotenes including spinach, dark leafy greens, tomatoes, etc.  Numerous scientific studies show that oral supplementation with carotenes, especially lycopene and beta-carotene improve skin structure, have powerful wound healing properties and offer great protection from damage caused by sunlight.
10. Drink green tea and/or take EGCG supplements. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a key component of green tea and it protects the skin from the sun’s damaging rays. Topical application also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
11. With so much skin exposed during the summer months, we are more apt to notice any unusual moles or skin changes. If you haven’t started seeing a dermatologist yet, start now. It’s always a good idea to see one every few years and more frequently if you notice anything unusual or if skin cancer runs in your family.
12. Avoid sugar and starches if you want to stay swimsuit slim and stave off wrinkles and accelerated aging.
13. Gentle exfoliation along with alpha hydroxy acids can help the skin to look fresh and renewed. The important concept to keep in mind is to be gentle and not to over do it. Too harsh or vigorous exfoliation treatments will create an inflammatory response in the skin, resulting in redness and irritation.
14. Avoid sun bathing!  You should be out in the sun for at least 15 minutes each day for a brisk walk or enjoying other activities, but don’t bake in the sun.
15. Don’t forget to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Eight to 10 glasses daily. Water keeps the skin plumped up and helps carry out the toxins and wastes produced in the cells—and helps us maintain a healthy weight. Water naturally suppresses the appetite and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that if we decrease our water intake our fat deposits will increase. Conversely, an increase in water intake will reduce fat deposits.
16. Vitamin D is unique among vitamins in that it can be provided to the body through food or from exposure to the sun. Sunshine is a significant source of vitamin D because UV rays from sunlight triggers vitamin D synthesis in the skin.  I recommend spending 15 minutes a day in the sun without sunscreen. This will increase Vitamin D protection known to reduce the risk of many internal cancers as well as reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Although sun exposure has been greatly vilified in the past decades, exposure to the sun is our most important source of this critical vitamin.
17. Protect your lips from summer sun. Soft, supple lips are a sign of both beauty and health.
