Wonderland

Luca's day in photos.
After a magical day with GG and papa sir in nature (and visiting his birth-day tree), we headed to Brooklyn for a long brunch with other mini humans.
Great day. Amazing weekend.

Luca wore:
Sweater, Baby CZ.
Blue pants and jeans, Zara.
Polo, All Saints.

need: summer clutch

All my friends keep complaining that the whole floral pant and jacket thing going on right now makes them feel like a desperate attempt to stay in style. Feel the same way? I say keep it simple by adding a touch of flowers to your LBD, jeans and tee or your all white (or bright) look...

Fast

We are having a competition. Who drives best.

Kid is a pro. Learned it from me, obviously.

salty hair, bellinis, the ceiling of grand central station, reading wrapped up in a cashmere blanket, long dresses, skinny dipping by a full moon, packed journals, long runs, quiet mornings, secrets, baby oil, picking wild flowers, photos, cell phone-less days, fries with mayo, tiny bikinis, making eye contact, knowing you don't have to say a word, dancing in a crowd, going unknown, exploring the globe, spinning underwater, laughing from the gut, summer friends, long hair, simple people, making wishes, seeing stars, feeling free, hearing stories, love, dolphins with dogs, warm skin, cookie dough, imperfections, racing heartbeats, the flirtation of strangers, sunlight, flickering candles, sandy feet, driving fast with the windows down

-reblogging this from a post I wrote ages ago because it's precisely what i'm feeling again today.

Every set I'm on, the assistants and models are STILL talking about their insane time at Coachella. Has me yearning for my younger self. Yearning for a day listening to music, dancing...

Oh the jealousy.

Few things interest me more than comparing a man's opinion to a woman's. When's the last time you sat with a friend of the opposite sex and compared thoughts on something - from how they feel about work to what they think of high heels to their opinion on weight?

Do it, it's fascinating. Truly.

"The unreal is more powerful than the real. Because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. Because its only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles. Wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on. If you can change the way people think. The way they see themselves. The way they see the world. You can change the way people live their lives. That’s the only lasting thing you can create."

arriving in Paris two days ago I wasn’t too thrilled … well first of I missed my plane which in the end wasn’t that bad since there are so many cheap flight from milan to paris. But mostly I was spoiled by a huge apartment and sun in Milan and I arrived here in a tiny apartment that just doesn’t smell right and the Parisians views are exactly charming from my window. of course I knew I had to go out to get in a better mood and that’s what happenend. I started with the Dries Van Noten Show yesterday and going into the splendid rooms of Hotel de Ville yesterday watching the girls rehearsal to the music lyrics of ”I’m building a sill to slow down the time” just was my meditation. And then of course the show was beautiful, not that I am a fan of all of the Asian inspired prints but Dries van Noten is such a master of shapes and layering and creating character. I will post some photos of the rehearsal and backstage these days but for now another refreshing sight from yesterday outside the show, Miss Candice Lake in white …

read: marilyn

Right now I'm in the midst of reading Marilyn, Mon Amour by Andre de Dienes.

I've never been too interested in her life, but after watching My Week With Marilyn, I've become more fascinated. This book is so beautiful.

In 1945, fashion photographer Andre de Dienes met an aspiring young brunette model named Norma Jeane. He instantly fell in love and transformed her into Marilyn Monroe over the course of a series of road trips which they took together. He wrote secret memoirs, which were discovered when Monroe fans ransacked his house after his death in 1988. From their trip to see her mother in a mental hospital to Marilyn's visit to his home a few days before her death, De Dienes recounts all of the emotional moments they shared. A beautiful story of friendship and love.

Oh man, I really want a sick vintage car. But since I don't exactly have a place to park it, nor do I drive ever, it's probably a gigantic waste. But my lord, just look at it...

My addiction to the British version of Top Gear has me full on obsessed with cars now. If I could do any other job, it would be to join the cast of that show. I'm a good driver (some would probably care to disagree), fast. I could be an amazing addition to the crew....

need: bold bracelet

I admire people's things all day long. Their hair, their children, the way they effortlessly walk in 5 inch heels on cobblestone streets...so today when I sat next to someone on the subway and saw a massive cuff practically the size of my bicep, I did all I could not to rip it from her wrist. Instead I inquired. Which landed me at paire.us where I found this Rima Shirt Cuff by Paige Novick - which is, so so so perfect for summer.

Character is
how you treat those
 who can do
nothing for you.

Raising my son to remember this at all times. To be kind to strangers, to the blind woman he chats with on the street (whom he called "beautiful" on easter sunday), to give to the kid without a car at the sandbox, to ask questions to everyone and listen to every answer. EVERY word. Everyone is someone.

I want him to hold that in his mind and treat it with the most affection possible. Today. Always.

Reader email:
I'm hosting a dinner party for my best friend (she's turning 30 and is pregnant), in the end of May. I want to do something bright and fun. Do you have any ideas of what I can do that makes it girly and pretty but not too much frill? I want chic and modern.

This photo is such a good way to bring color into an outdoor lunch or dinner party. Not sure how much I love the plates, but a more toned down version would be amazing.

There's nothing like wildflowers in different shaped vases. Etsy is a great place to discover little vintage bottles for things like this. Also, check out flea markets and second hand stores in small villages, that's always where I find the best deals and most unreal discoveries.

recipe for a good day...

Images from here

I'm having a great day. And have been for quite some time recently. I feel like I've really rid my life of toxic nonsense and have such clean and clear energy around me. It's the best feeling in the world.

Anyway, part of feeling so good is realizing what makes me happy. You know? I really believe that is what good living is about. Really understanding your true pleasures. Once I accepted that talking long runs, listening to music and dancing with luca, looking at inspirational photos, writing in my journal, not talking to/dealing with unstable/vicious people, selling/giving away all the extra stuff in my life, was what brought me joy, I just went with it.

What really makes you happy? What brings you to a very good place?
